Cookie Policy

Draft v0 — not yet legal-reviewed·Last updated 2026-06-09

This is a working draft of our cookie policy. It reflects the cookies the platform actually sets today. We do not embed third-party advertising trackers, social-media pixels, or cross-site marketing technologies. The list below is the complete picture.

1. What is a cookie

A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your device when you visit it. Cookies are widely used to make websites work or work more efficiently, to remember your preferences, and to keep you logged in across pages. They are tiny — typically a few hundred bytes — and they cannot read other files on your device or transmit malware.

We use a closely related browser feature called "local storage" only for short-lived UI state such as remembering whether you have dismissed a banner. Local storage values stay on your device until you clear them through your browser. Both kinds of storage can be inspected and cleared from your browser's developer tools.

2. Cookies we set

Strictly necessary — "session". This cookie holds the signed JSON Web Token that keeps you logged in. Without it the site cannot recognise you across requests, so log-in, profile editing, posting, messaging, and bookmarks all stop working. The cookie is HTTP-only (not readable by JavaScript), Secure (sent only over HTTPS in production), SameSite=Lax, and expires after two hours of inactivity. We cannot operate the service without this cookie, so it is set without prior consent under ZZPL Art. 12(1)(b) / GDPR Art. 6(1)(b).

Preference — "NEXT_LOCALE". Set by the language switcher and the profile language preference field, this cookie remembers whether you prefer Serbian (sr-Latn) or English (en) so the site renders in the chosen language on subsequent visits. It expires after one year. You can change or remove it from your browser at any time.

Preference — "theme" and "siterka.consent". Both stored as cookies. "theme" remembers whether you chose light or dark mode. "siterka.consent" records your decision on analytics ("accepted" or "declined") so we don't keep asking on every page; it expires after one year. You can clear either at any time.

3. Third-party cookies — Google Analytics 4

If — and only if — you choose "Accept analytics" on the consent banner, we load Google Analytics 4 (GA4). GA4 sets cookies in your browser (most commonly "_ga" and "_ga_<id>") that help us count visitors, understand which pages people use, and see roughly which country they come from. We have enabled IP-anonymisation, so your full IP address is never stored. We do not enable advertising or remarketing features. The data goes to Google LLC under our data-processing terms; see Google's privacy notice for the full picture. If you choose "Decline", these cookies are not set and the GA4 script is not loaded at all. You can revisit the choice by clearing the "siterka.consent" cookie — the banner will reappear on your next visit.

4. How to control cookies

Most browsers let you view, manage, and delete cookies from their settings. You can block all cookies, block third-party cookies only, set up notifications when a cookie is set, or clear all stored cookies. Mainstream browsers publish guides at the following addresses: support.google.com/chrome, support.mozilla.org/firefox, support.apple.com/safari, and support.microsoft.com/edge.

Blocking the strictly necessary "session" cookie will prevent you from logging in. Clearing the "NEXT_LOCALE" cookie will reset your language preference to the default (Serbian); you can re-set it from the language switcher or your profile. Clearing "siterka.consent" will resurface the analytics banner so you can change your mind.

5. Consent

Strictly necessary and preference cookies ("session", "NEXT_LOCALE", "theme") are set without prior consent because the service does not function without them. The Google Analytics cookies are set only after you press "Accept analytics" on the banner. Pressing "Decline" or simply not choosing leaves analytics off; the banner stays visible until you choose. Your choice is recorded in the "siterka.consent" cookie for one year, after which we will ask again.

6. Changes to this policy

If the cookies we set change, we will update this page and the last-updated date at the top. Material changes that introduce a new category of cookie will be communicated through an in-product banner.
